Furong Ancient Town (??? ), a picturesque and historic town in Hunan Province, China, famous for a large waterfall cascading through its center. The town, over 2,000 years old, was originally named Wangcun but was renamed Furong (meaning hibiscus) after the 1986 film Hibiscus Town was filmed there. It is known as the ancient town hanging on the waterfall because its stilted buildings are built on the steep riverbanks above a 60-meter-high, 40-meter-wide waterfall. Visitors can walk behind the waterfall through a cave passage. The town is home to the Tujia minority people, showcasing a blend of Tujia and Han Chinese cultures and traditional architecture.
